Penny for a song, Sir? I can dance too, Sir. All good fun. Thank you, Sir.

There are so many good thinkers  and writers on theatre, film and other arts. Your writing  is on past and present theatre, film and other arts.  Great. I want to read more of what you write.

But I hate you.  I really do. And for good reason. Damn university!!!!!!!

Your academic books are so expensive even on Kindle. Then when I look for your essays and articles I frequently find that either you or your university want to sell them to me. In some cases you expect me… a  mere single human being to morph…. to become an institution… to pay a large subscription fee and sometimes even pay extra money on top to read your essay.  Shame on you…Harvard and Oxford University. I haven’t had time to check on any other big institutions. My local New Zealand library doesn’t often have all your books. Possibly they are too expensive and not for all readers. A good decision by them. Libraries always want more readers and they do understand budget limitations.

I hate you, Professor!!!!!!!!!!!!   In your short YouTube interview you said you spent six years researching and two years writing a book about a certain playwright. You have tenure at your workplace and you  have been there for half or more of your life. I don’t think you are even close to poverty. Have you ever known economic hardship?

If you want more readers… the poor and those of us in boring work situations and those without paid work…. you need to care and help us. Most people who read books struggle with money to  pay the mortgage, school fees, sports fees and rising food costs, but we are also the Thespians who go to the theatre and arts centres and keep the playwrights and actors from living too close to the gutter.  We support the arts you write about.

Should I keep on being angry and rant and rage into the cosmos of this website?  What is your personal philosophy on the question of how to contribute to making reading about the arts more accessible.  Your most  expensive book was listed at over two hundred dollars on Amazon. Wow!  Some others are cheaper.  But, please Sir, why not make em’ all cheap as peanuts?
