I’m a fan of Shakespeare. His thoughts and words have been inside me for many years. I understand part of him. I’ll die without knowing the writing of the whole man. But, no worry. Until my last minutes I hope to keep exploring his head and heart.
Frequently I think, is there a way to reach into the head of a child with the Bard? Because, if that is possible then the Sweet Swan of Avon may become a lifelong friend and companion to the child as he/she grows. What a gift!.
But, things go wrong, eh! Politicians want to force him down our throats. Teachers who do not understand or love the the Bard, do a bad job and damage yet another generation.
So, let’s not make him compulsory in any school setting. But, let us agree. If a miracle of understanding is possible, let us perform it.
Recently I saw a modern Shakespeare experience on the Internet. Some well known young actors performed a version of one his tragedies using Avatars and other technology. They shortened the dialogue to a few words with much ado around them of noise and visuals.
Alas. Not all experiments with the arts work. This one was funded by a donor, so perhaps it had to be shown to an audience.
Was it a worthwhile idea. Yes.
Was it worth viewing as a help Shakespeare understanding. No
Did I enjoy it. No.
Should it be publicly shown. ???????? ( Not again in my presence)
Why the hell am I writing this? Not sure. For a title we could say BARD BEWARE.
or BEWARE BARD.
