Photos from Antigone performed at The Greytown Little Theatre, Wairarapa, New Zealand. The version we used was called The Burial at Thebes by Seamus Heaney. I changed the title name to Antigone.
Love,Lust Lies was a series of sections from Shakespeare plays. It included scenes from Measure for Measure and Antony and Cleopatra. Costume design was excellent for this production.
The Final Phase – Sylvia Plath
I wrote this stage play, under the name of Alexander Lucas. No one saw the link with Sylvia’s novel The Bell Jar. Heather March, acted the part of Sylvia and we jointly funded the production. Heather took care of set, costume, acting. I directed also did lighting and sound.
Antony and Cleopatra is a play I love and admire. I enjoy the conflict between the two leading characters and the contrast between the formal behaviour in Rome and the free flow of passion in Egypt. This production goes back a long time to 1970. The production was at the Victoria University Theatre in Wellington. The production started with a wrestling match and much noise. I knew some professional wrestlers in Wellington and they came on stage every night and performed for about five minues as the stage curtain rose on the play. Don Selwyn was Marc Antony and Helen Brew was Cleopatra. It eas a big success and we had almost full houses for the season. By happy coincidence there was a Shakespeare Festival on in Wellington and we became part of it.
